Vioxx trial award reduced by 77% by Texas law

A state court in texas has reduced by more than 77% the award the was given to the Garza family for the death of Leonel Garza in 2001. Leonel Garza had been taking Vioxx as a pain killer for one month when he died from a heart attack. The family had then been rewarded a 32 million dollars compensation for the lost of Mr. Garza. A texas court decided to reduce to 7.25 million dollars the amount rewarded facing a state law that tops the amount of punitive damages to twice the amount of the economic damages.
